Throwback Thursday.

This week, let's take a look at one of the songs that displays KG's lyrical genius - Girl Who Can't Break Up, Boy Who Can't Leave

Girl Who Can't Break Up, Boy Who Can't Leave is a lyrical brilliance. It's one of those songs where KG proves he doesn't just play with words, he comes up with insights, observations about human emotions and behavior that have alwyas been in front of us but never quite noticed.

The song, essentially, is about a couple who still love each other but are not anymore "in love". The strain of the lives they have pursued has taken a toll in the relationship but neither could bring themselves to walk away because of their history and the love they still have for each other. It's a love that has changed but love nonetheless.

The instruments duplicates the thoughts of the lyrics. Instruments, beats and timing were "extending" each other. Like the lyrics that talks about "stretching" the relationship even though they know it is already supposed to end, the music is stretched by putting in an instrument that extends the melody of the previous instrument that is already supposed to end.

The piano, for example, starts playing single keys. When its beat or melody is about to end, a different melody comes in that seems to extend the life of the previous melody.

Even the main beat of the song that is provided by the drums is stretched. It is repeated throughout the song to a point when you could feel that the beat is supposed to end already but it keeps on going.

It is exactly what the lyrics is saying. It should end. The relationship should end, not because things are ugly but simply because they've taken the relationship as far as they could go.

They started out with nothing but dreams and she supported his. "My dreams became your future," KG said. His dreams became the center of the relationship and it was what bonded them. However, the fulfillment of his dreams changed him and it changed their relationship.

His needs changed, he changed and she got left behind. The worse thing is that it was all happening right in front of their eyes. They both watch as he transitions into a different world but there was nothing either of them could do about it.

He could only listen to her cry alone in the bathroom. He had no choice but to simply take it whenever she looks at him filled with questions.

The song was written as LeeSsang was already starting to enjoy mainstream success. KG openly stated that this is a song written for his ex-girlfriend of seven years.

The "changes" he was talking about was his career and the life he had to live so he could continue making music and fulfill the new dreams he was building.

The "changes" he was talking about was his career and the life he had to live so he could continue making music and fulfill the new dreams he was building.

Not that he didn't try to make it work but even as he tries to spend time with the girl, his thoughts are in his music, his career, commitments and responsibilities. He was trying so hard, in fact, that it started becoming a routine to him, a game he had to play.

In the end, he did say "I still love you, baby" but he also said "Everything else is the same but we changed.".

It could simply be a matter of "right love at the wrong time". He was in that phase of his life when everything is changing and they couldn't quite figure out where the relationship was supposed to be.

Towards the end of the song, he lets out more of his frustrations and a great insight about love, "Wouldn't it be better of we can have love just by wanting it?", "Why does love change?"

And in the usual KG fashion, he does not provide an answer.
